Paint, Print, Cut, Stick, Stamp - Day 1

Artist Abigail Hunt returned to Children’s Art School to lead another exploratory two-day course looking at painting, collage and printmaking.

Children got of to a busy start by making their very own painting utensils. A variety of materials were used to make brushes, rollers and stampers.

We used feathers, bubble wrap, wood offcuts, wire – anything we could get our hands on.

After this busy session we took some quieter time to experiment with a variety of drawing materials using just black and white.

We returned to our painting implements and had a fun session experimenting with the painted marks we could make.

We could roll, stamp, scratch, dab, flick the paint to create all sorts of new effects.

By the end of the morning we had a huge variety of painted and drawn surfaces that we will use tomorrow to create new art works.

After lunch we started to explore collage a little more. Abigail gave us a set of rules to work with for creating lots of little collages.

We also experimented with home made filters to photograph our own work. All these techniques will add to the variety of surfaces that we will use tomorrow to make new works.

Finally we played with folding and scrunching a piece of paper to create abstract shapes  – we will find out what this will be used for tomorrow!

A very productive first day. Click here to see how this work was transformed into new!
